I figured Elvis has gotta make a way to your wedding! From my favourite movie when I was a little tiny girl.. Here’s earth angel featured in “Back to the future”

How could you not have this at the your wedding? It’s the song that brought them mum and dad back together!!

Hello ladies! First things first… just a tip for wedding scrapbooking, is, put your actual wedding flowers pressed between kitchen towels/bigger tissues, and put it in between thick books.

Remember to use tissue paper beacause I used an old mag to press some beautiful roses and the “juices” from the flowers just made everything messy, gross and rotten. So the tissue kind of absorbs whatever decomposition “juices” and doesn’t let it interfere with the pressing.

You can then use those pressings and put it in your scrapbook and say, “these are my actual day flowers!”

Cool or what.

Ladies, here’s a tip for you.

After I went through my ROM photos, which was kindly taken by a few friends (who also do professional photography), I realise it’s not the photographer’s fault, that I am too crazy on the day itself.

You see, we like to be a bit more giggly than men. Happiness and all the romance goes to your head.. and.. to your behaviour. So we laugh too hard, or move too much and wham, a bad picture.

SO, Think, on your big day, THINK QUEEN ELIZABETH for a good picture at all angles. ;) (Of course you gotta enjoy yourself too, but just bear in mind!)

I absolutely loveeee Amanda Wakeley’s gowns. She was featured in “wedding and travel 2008″ -if you’ve gotten it from the bookstores (about SGD$6) and I was gushing about her gowns to the hubby.

He said, “You’ve got expensive taste.”

Well, a woman’s gotta start with taste first right. Then, it’s tasting. ;)

For me, a good gown doesn’t necessarily have to be pricey to be beautiful. What is important is that it reflects your own style and the gown has to compliment every part of your body. For example, some gowns are so “manufactured” that it starts covering the entire lower half body from the waist. Sometimes it’s good to show the shape of the legs I think with some fluidity, which is what Amanda Wakeley’s gown have done.

You can get her gowns from “The Link” which is located at Shangri-la Hotel in Singapore.

Here are my favourite picks from her first collection! For more ideas, visit http://www.amandawakeley.com/

I was watching an old tv show from TLC reality tv called, “For better or for worse”. (it’s not on the official TLC site anymore.)

What I gather is that a team of people who are the Bride and Groom’s friends/family, put together a wedding for them and the Bride and Groom completely have NO clue until the day itself. (really risky if you ask me.)

They have to answer some questions like,

To Bride: We asked the groom’s sister to tell us what she think is the best way to persuade your groom.

The options were: 1. Feminine Charm 2. Razor Sharp Wit 3. (can’t remember the third option).

The bride chose Razor Sharp Wit but the groom’s sister thought the bride would use her feminine charm. I think this is the kind of misconceptions that we women have and it’s different from how the rest of the world think. (so they lost out on a bonus prize because of this.)

What was interesting is that most of the entire setting was done DIY. In total, the whole wedding costed about USD4.9k, which is really cheap if you ask me!

I think a great item to learn is the FLOWER BALL. (also known as the pomander)

Simply get a styrofoam ball from any arts and craft shop, and a glue gun (or any good sticky glue.) Then stick away!! (of course not forgeting the beautiful ribbon attached to sling it around the wrist!)

I have been keeping my ears/eyes out for the perfect wedding song and even though I’m sure along the way, I would come up with some more, I think the perfect wedding song for me right now is, “So Close” by Jon Mclaughlin.

I mean, c’mon, with lyrics like this:

A life goes by
Romantic dreams will stop
So I bid mine goodbye and never knew
So close was waiting, waiting here with you
And now forever I know
All that I wanted to hold you
So close

I couldn’t find the original MTV, but here’s one static one just for the song.

My Second choice is “Your Guardian Angel” by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.

I love lyrics like this:

I will never let you fall
I’ll stand up with you forever
I’ll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

So my mum mentioned that when you plan that BIIIIGGG wedding with the dinner and all, you gotta make sure it is “accountable” in a sense, so that people know how much red packet to give you.

I mean, it does make sense- BUT I’m not really keen on having the ball room type wedding with chinese cold dish to add.

I’m looking forward to a more different and “white tent”, dream like wedding that I will remember for life and I want people walking away as though they just walked in and out of a dream like celebration.

Anyway.. so I was surfing… and surfing.. and BAM! I found this AMAZING site,

let me put it in full here and not a link cause I’m so excited to share this.

http://www.theknot.com or just theknot.com works.

Where’s my blogroll thing!! I need to get this favourite ASAP. It has EVERYTHING. Granted, it is not local, but it’s beautiful and gives you plenty of tips and tricks!!

I am sleepy and it’s 1:15am- I should be sleeping, but before I do, I wanted to blog about the auspicious date thing because it’s part of what we did for ROM. lol

During my producing days, I used to work with a Fengshui master, called Master Hui, and he consults all the ‘celebrities’ in Singapore. So, the fact that I knew he was not a dodgy guy, I told my hubby that we should go and get a date for our ROM even though we’re of another religion. No harm getting more help and blessings from fate right?

So we paid about slightly below 200 bucks for the dates. (He gave us 5 dates) He takes 2 weeks to calculate and you need to know all your birth-date, time,  as well as your parents.

You can give him English date and he will convert to “chinese” (calendar) dates and then count from there.

For those who do not require this “auspicious date”, just take heart that you’re not chinese and don’t have such traditions. :p

I thought it was quite fun though. Calculating a date so we don’t have to crack our heads for a date ourselves! A word of caution, do consult your families on this because for us, we had some conflict on approaching who-whos.

So before you step on this turf, make sure the older folks are aware and all-approving of the traditional ways we- the younger generation- are adopting.

Places to find such tellers: shops selling Buddhism crafts (maybe),  temples, ask the mums.

Hair:

In the end, I had my hair short-mid ( i took out my extensions because they were a terror and could not be styled. Lesson learned!!), and since our theme was Vintage Romance, I had this super vintage style, (as commented by my hubby upon seeing me, “WHOA! VINTAGE!”).

Whatever your style is, if you are doing your hair DIY, here’s a good trick to know to ensure it stays throughout the day. I learnt this on a photoshoot and this was what the professionals did:

  1. Wet your hair/Wash. (optional)- I did this because my scalp is naturally oily and I didn’t want to style it without ‘clearing’ it first. So this is up to the individual. Some people feel their hair is thicker prior washing as opposed to immediately after.
  2. Put tons of styling mousse evenly over your hair. Don’t be stingy! Mousse mousse mousse!!
  3. Blow dry using a round brush to create more volume. (the pros blew my hair completely dry and volumnized on a photoshoot, but when I did my hair, I left it a little wet so that it can curl more when I roll em.)
  4. Then as you prepare to roll your hair, (I’m assuming you are going to roll it), spray styling spray and quickly roll it in. Do it forEVERY roll.
  5. Leave it on for as long as you can and then when you remove it, just shake your head and spray finishing spray to set the hair.
  6. For shine: you can spray some shine but make sure it is light weight.Try not to use creams!

For Make up:

I went for old-style hollywood glamour so I had red lips and false eyelashes and very nude eyeshadow- but because my skin tone can’t take pure red, I’ve improvised and put a chocolate-y base and then a dark maroon, then finish with the chocolate-y base and then a light shade of pink/red on the centre of my lips.

I’ve tried several make-up styles before the ROM and feel that natural or red-lips usually do the trick and makes it romantic than smoky eyes.

The most important for make up that transcends all styles is, making it last without making it look cakey. It’s imporant to put a good make up base because some helps to make the foundation and final look more radiant and lasting.

If you’re wearing any off shoulders, make sure you have your neck and shoulders covered with lasting foundation or something!

Always remember, less is more!! The only more you should have is more-hours of long lasting foundation that looks natural!

I intend to engage a hair stylist for the traditional wedding and do my own make up since it costs a few hundreds. Why don’t keep that money for your wedding spending? I know a few make up artists that are really good.

Apart from the famous Clarence Lee (who does Zhang Zhi Yi’s make up), I know Peter Khor does remarkable looks without being outlandish. There was a photoshoot when I had my make up done by him, it was SO subtle but upon closer look, the eye make up was BEAUTIFUL and it really enhanced my look instead of over powering it.

I worked with Larry Yeo before on a fashion shoot and he’s experienced in fashion shoots so he’s really good at make up that looks fantastic on the camera as well. :)

Venue: Courtyard at National Library
Caterer: Mum’s Kitchen
Flowers: Bought on our own at JM Garden (wholesaler) and arranged by our own.
Decor: Bought balloons and an interesting fake paper wedding cake. String: our own. haha.
Solemnization Table: From Mum’s kitchen
Chairs: Also from our Caterer
Teadress: From Olive Suites
Shirt: Personality Men’s Shop @ Pennisular Plaza
Suit: G200 BLACK series
Hair and Make Up: Done by ourselves!

It’s been a pretty hectic DIY affair since we had to pluck petals and head to the venue with several big bags and pump our air balloons. Whew!!!

A lot of admin trouble from our caterer because of wrong pdf and such, but the food was good! We had to make sure the caterer comes on time otherwise our entire schedule screws up! So they came early instead of later. :) Thank God. I’ll drop them a note tomorrow to thank them for the food.

All the worries about catering were quelled after the nice set up. It would be nicer with a big beautiful flower, but I think it’s good enough for my little ROM. Catering is definitely more daunting than a restaurant where you can go for tasting!

The rest of the obstacles really came with expectations from each other, from family… and getting everyone to RSVP. I have a feeling it’s the same set of issues on the BIG DAY.

Then now, we are a bit unsure of what happens next since we are going to hold our traditional ceremony till a few years later!
