I guess we can all draw some inspiration from the hair, make up, and dress (for evening), from the Oscars!

Jennifer Garner, who shone at the Oscars and was pretty much the “favourited” actress for the best overall look.
The woman who makes us mere mortals look like downright plain.. Jessica Alba here is pregnant, looking a lil tired but still pretty cool a look to carry. (warm colours.)
Marion Cotillard who won the best actress, who deserved every bit of it, and looked every bit the winning actress with a very beautiful and youthful look. She’s the kind of the girl I wanna be when I hit the 30s bracket man!
Here’s her with another kind of look which is cool for an evening look to downplay the evening gown.

(I don’t like the dress at all…) but here’s a good look for the hair and casual make up. You want to look natural but gorgeous so I think this is a pretty good look to follow!
Now for dresses inspiration….

Cameron Diaz is wearing a pink version of Dior, and although I like the IDEA of the gown, this gown risks looking crumpling and would probably not last throughout the night with the wedding toasts and what not with such a material.

Not everyone can carry off the dress… but I think, if you can make it more wearable with a more flowy feel.. go for it!

This dress might be a tad too revealing for relatives, but the idea and texture is there. Take a sheer material over a champagne coloured material and it looks glamourous already.

I know this is a very unflattering shot of Miley Cyrus, but the dress really stands out and this is the main idea! If you wanna use red for your evening gown, take this for inspiration! Demure and a little Greek like flow, you’ll be calling the shots on your wedding day!

I absolutely loveeee Amanda Wakeley’s gowns. She was featured in “wedding and travel 2008″ -if you’ve gotten it from the bookstores (about SGD$6) and I was gushing about her gowns to the hubby.
He said, “You’ve got expensive taste.”
Well, a woman’s gotta start with taste first right. Then, it’s tasting.
For me, a good gown doesn’t necessarily have to be pricey to be beautiful. What is important is that it reflects your own style and the gown has to compliment every part of your body. For example, some gowns are so “manufactured” that it starts covering the entire lower half body from the waist. Sometimes it’s good to show the shape of the legs I think with some fluidity, which is what Amanda Wakeley’s gown have done.
You can get her gowns from “The Link” which is located at Shangri-la Hotel in Singapore.
Here are my favourite picks from her first collection! For more ideas, visit http://www.amandawakeley.com/
Hair:
In the end, I had my hair short-mid ( i took out my extensions because they were a terror and could not be styled. Lesson learned!!), and since our theme was Vintage Romance, I had this super vintage style, (as commented by my hubby upon seeing me, “WHOA! VINTAGE!”).
Whatever your style is, if you are doing your hair DIY, here’s a good trick to know to ensure it stays throughout the day. I learnt this on a photoshoot and this was what the professionals did:
- Wet your hair/Wash. (optional)- I did this because my scalp is naturally oily and I didn’t want to style it without ‘clearing’ it first. So this is up to the individual. Some people feel their hair is thicker prior washing as opposed to immediately after.
- Put tons of styling mousse evenly over your hair. Don’t be stingy! Mousse mousse mousse!!
- Blow dry using a round brush to create more volume. (the pros blew my hair completely dry and volumnized on a photoshoot, but when I did my hair, I left it a little wet so that it can curl more when I roll em.)
- Then as you prepare to roll your hair, (I’m assuming you are going to roll it), spray styling spray and quickly roll it in. Do it forEVERY roll.
- Leave it on for as long as you can and then when you remove it, just shake your head and spray finishing spray to set the hair.
- For shine: you can spray some shine but make sure it is light weight.Try not to use creams!
For Make up:
I went for old-style hollywood glamour so I had red lips and false eyelashes and very nude eyeshadow- but because my skin tone can’t take pure red, I’ve improvised and put a chocolate-y base and then a dark maroon, then finish with the chocolate-y base and then a light shade of pink/red on the centre of my lips.
I’ve tried several make-up styles before the ROM and feel that natural or red-lips usually do the trick and makes it romantic than smoky eyes.
The most important for make up that transcends all styles is, making it last without making it look cakey. It’s imporant to put a good make up base because some helps to make the foundation and final look more radiant and lasting.
If you’re wearing any off shoulders, make sure you have your neck and shoulders covered with lasting foundation or something!
Always remember, less is more!! The only more you should have is more-hours of long lasting foundation that looks natural!
I intend to engage a hair stylist for the traditional wedding and do my own make up since it costs a few hundreds. Why don’t keep that money for your wedding spending? I know a few make up artists that are really good.
Apart from the famous Clarence Lee (who does Zhang Zhi Yi’s make up), I know Peter Khor does remarkable looks without being outlandish. There was a photoshoot when I had my make up done by him, it was SO subtle but upon closer look, the eye make up was BEAUTIFUL and it really enhanced my look instead of over powering it.
I worked with Larry Yeo before on a fashion shoot and he’s experienced in fashion shoots so he’s really good at make up that looks fantastic on the camera as well.
I can’t believe how a small affair for our ROM can be so tiring and cumbersome! I think all the things to do is squeezed into the days before our ROM, things that need loadsa time!- LIKE packing to relocate to another country.
Nonetheless, the feeling is tired, and pimples are coming out- NO GOOD. I went to collect my tea dress from Olive Suites today and when I tried it on again, I saw a pimple on my back! OMG, DISASTER! Seldom do I have pimples on my back and I can’t believe it’s happening now!!
I couldn’t wake up in time to collect the certs with kruder early in the morning. I was kinda cursing at ROM for making couples wake up before an unearthly 8:30am to collect their certs before the big day.
So yes, you have to collect your cert and then bring it on your ROM day. Here is ours! Photo taken by kruder!
We also visited the store at Centrepoint, called “PARTY WITH US” for some pretty cool party and novelty ROM stuff. They have wedding banners- which can be used for the big wedding type and also a magnet that says “Just married” to be placed on your car instead of the usual types. Very cute! We’ll upload photos of what we bought soon!
For decorative stuff as well as stuff to use, you can visit Orchard Delphi- there’s a store just opposite Olive Suites on level 3 selling everything a wedding accessories may require: except balloons. hehe. So you can check that out!

Of course I’m not going to put up photos of the tea dress I’m wearing, BUT here’s Olive Suites! They are a BEAUUUTIFUL shop that does custom made gowns. If you’re into magical, fairy-like theme, you won’t be disappointed here.
I love their gowns!! I found out today from Yendoo, that they also own Fairy’s Inc, the same dream-like jewelers who does custom made wedding bands and rings. They are located at level 3, Orchard Delphi.
They are open from noon onwards.

So we went to the libary last friday to check out some books to borrow that might give us some hint. The photo on the right is one of the books that I’ve borrowed. It’s called “Perfect Bride” by Janet Wright. Yes, alot of things, you are more or less informed, but it does help to have all your ‘thoughts’ organised in this book and reading it through helps give you some kind of emotional stability.
So today, I’ve been trying to find a pair of shoes for the ROM. We’re trying to find something within budget so it’s been a little tricky.
The image here looks alot like the shoe that I wanted, except that the colour was off-white and it has a nice diamonte in the middle. Very much in the same “style” as my ROM dress.
Still gonna keep looking!
