I decided to write this post on photography because I am a person who really values the art and eye involved in producing quality photography in a high-pressured  environment like on the actual day for the wedding, or the ability to story-tell in a pre-wedding environment.

We went with Ian Photography for our pre-wedding from a friend’s recommendation, of which I will upload some photos once they are edited, and we were really torn as to which photographer to use for actual day. (We could have used Ian as well but we wanted a variety so we looked for someone else.)

Of course the question again, is: “Can we afford what we want to what?” or, “What can we get with the given constrains?” We don’t have a free ticket to spend freely, so naturally, like every average couple out there, there’s alot of homework to be done and hard decisions to be made.

One way to get alot of ‘homework’ done is to visit a big exhibition and the most recent one we went to was BOWS 2011, which was held at Douby Gaut. (14 – 16 January 2011)

We spent 5 hours there and here’s a shortlist of my favourite photographers who exhibited there. I gotta qualify that this is not representation of all the photographers out there but if given free choice, I’d go with all of them. They are exceptional in their technical skills as a photographer and if you’re looking for some suggestions on photographer based on these few, it’s down to style and price that you can work with.

I’ve come up with some of my interpretation of their styles…

If you are an exciting and adventurous couple… choose…

Although there are a number of photographers under this photography house, we managed to speak with Samuel (one of the photographers) at the BOWS exhibition and we were very very comfortable with him as a person and as a photographer. He wasn’t pushy at all, and you can tell he is a great guy to work with (as you know many wedding businesses can get very shady and pushy these days)!

(Note, do speak with all of the photographers if you’d like to have an overall view of what to expect from this photography house!)

If you are looking for a gorgeous world-class classic shoot… choose…

All photos are copyrighted to the respective photographers. Thankfully I’ve gotten their permission to use them here! :) During the BOWS event, I had the chance to speak with all the photographers listed here (and many others too.. hence the 5 hours!!), and all of them here, despite their immense talent, are very nice and humble people. So we felt comfortable talking to them about our budget, and what we were looking for.

Happy hunting on your homework for your actual day! (or pre-wedding!)
